Hotel Transylvania Wiki

The Monsterfication Ray is a device with a crystal on top capable of shooting out red magical beams that can turn humans into monsters and green magical beams that can turn monsters into humans.

It is first featured in Hotel Transylvania: Transformania. The ray is owned by Abraham Van Helsing, who tested it on his pet guinea pig Gigi. It then turns Johnny into a dragon-like monster and causes Dracula, Wayne Werewolf, Frankenstein, Murray, Griffin, and a Zombie to become human. It also turns Blobby into a plate of gelatin and Tinkles into a small dog, but both were changed back immediately by Dracula.

It's been confirmed by Abraham Van Helsing that the ray is highly unstable. If used on the monster setting, the transformation will keep mutating until the subject becomes a mindless, ravenous beast with no traces of humanity left.

The human setting ray doesn't work on fully transformed savage monsters. The only way to get them back to their human selves is to get them to feel like themselves through memory or a simple reminder.

Trivia[]

  • According to Van Helsing, what the ray turns humans into monsters doesn't work by desire.
  • When monsters are turned human, they are changed to match the human age their species would be; though not always:
    • Dracula, Wayne, and Griffin looked middle-aged.
    • Murray becomes an old man.
    • Frank looks like a man in his mid-20s.
  • In Tinkles and Blobby's case, the ray doesn't always turn a monster into a human, but rather into something harmless.
  • In the second official trailer, the name was changed from "The Monsterfication Ray" to "The Transformation Ray".
